A View of the Past and Vision of the Future

We're in Paris and you may well ask what have you seen? What is the most memorable event? The Mona Lisa? The Louvre? The Eiffel Tower? The Café’s? Euro Disney?
These are great, but my most memorable experience will be the Smart Car. Smart Car? What?
Yes, while a gallon of gas is hovering around $3 in the US and the sales of SUV’s and pick-up’s are tanking, the price of gas in Europe is $6 a gallon. In Paris, small cars are the rule, not the exception. Paris has shown me history and it has also shown me how inefficient, we, as Americans are.
There isn’t a hybrid to be seen, with the exception of the cut away model in the Toyota showroom off of Avenue Des Champs-Élysées, and I’m guessing that the combined mileage for the non-hybrid vehicles that keep whizzing by is well over 30 MPG.
Visiting a foreign land offers a different everlasting perspective. I never thought that Paris would teach me about the past and also give me a vision for the future - but it did.
